How a Nigerian girl was incacerated and exploited as a domestic slave by a wealthy family in the UK 26-year-old Cynthia is one of the thousands of modern slavery victims whose suffering has been highlighted in a report published by the University of Hull and YouGov on Tuesday, October 18th, about the lack of awareness of the scale or nature of modern slavery in the UK. In December 2013, a year after she escaped, Cynthia, then 23, reported the abuse and exploitation to the police. Her case is currently in its final stages. And three years later, precisely last week, she won her asylum case and is now working for a charity alongside her Accountancy studies. However, walking away from slavery was terrifying for Cynthia. Mrs. Chika Orji opened up on why she decided to have her spouse killed as she was apprehended by officers of the Area ‘J’ Command, Ajah, Lagos State after one of the hired assassins, Bright Ikechukwu was caught while trying to gain entry into the victim’s house in Jakande Estate, Ajah, Lagos State. Naira shortage pushes interbank rate to 150% Oyetunji Abioye with agency report Overnight interbank rate was quoted at a record high of 150 per cent on Tuesday, two days after commercial banks placed funds with the Central Bank of Nigeria to participate in last Friday’s currency forward auction. Traders said few deals were done on Tuesday due to a shortage of naira on the money market, with banks unwilling to place funds among themselves until the result of Friday’s currency auction was published. On Friday, the CBN held a two-month dollar forward auction to clear a backlog of demand from airlines, manufacturers and other companies, as the exchange rate crisis deepened. Traders said the banks were later directed by the CBN to re-submit bids again on Monday. It was learnt that rates spiked because banks were barred from the CBN’s repo window before any currency auction. The CBN had not announced result of the auction as of Tuesday. “Most banks are not quoting rates because they are stil
