Police bust Nigerian smuggling and prostitution ring in Italy Police have arrested 11 Nigerians for allegedly trafficking young women and girls from Nigeria to exploit them as sex slaves in the southern Italian city of Catania. Police Officer Antonio Salvago said Monday, October 24th, that the victims underwent a voodoo rite to bind them to their debts after they promised to pay up to 40,000 euros ($43,000) for a journey they thought would bring them to a better life in Europe, a rite which made them obey their smugglers and pimps. The victims, all under age 25 and some as young as 16, traveled through Libya before crossing the Mediterranean by boat with thousands of other migrants Catania Chief Prosecutor Carmelo Zuccaro says the investigation shows that illegal immigration breeds more serious crimes of exploitation and forced prostitution. Murder trial of 28-year-old Yewande Oyediran whoallegedly killed her husband in Ibadan in February begins Nov. 9th The murder trial of 28 year old Yewande Oyediran, the woman accused of stabbing her husband, 38 year old Oyediran Ajanaku Lowo to death at their Akobo estate home in Ibadan, Oyo state on February 2nd this year after a domestic dispute, has been scheduled for November 9th. The hearing which was earlier slated for yesterday October 24th, was rescheduled following the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Munta Abimbola who is the Chief Judge of Oyo State. The case will come up for hearing at the High Court 1, High Court of Justice, Ring Road, Ibadan. Yewande who is a lawyer and a Staff of the Directorate of public prosecution at the Ministry of Justice, Ibadan, Oyo state, is currently being detained at the Agodi, Prison in Oyo
