Youths obey the clarion call, let us lift our nation high. Anyone who has had the opportunity to serve his fatherland will know this line and the other lines that follow.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC is a scheme that has been in existence for many decades. Graduates from the tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been able to serve Nigeria under this scheme and have been able to move on from that point.

It is a remarkable and relative experience to those who have been able to serve Nigeria this way; some corp members claim to have had a smashing time during the period of one year that the whole process usually last for while some think it is a total waste of time as they had to struggle from the beginning to the end.

Irrespective of what corp members think about the scheme, this process has remained the same with the administrators making little modifications with each passing moment.

Corp members serving the nation have a uniform; this is basically the white crested vest, the khaki jacket and trousers with cap and the jungle boots.

Fresh corp members are usually proud of this uniform even though they know people refer to them as ‘Otondo’ because they love to kit up. They are usually proud of this outfit until the euphoria of serving the fatherland starts to wear off.

This is the phase where many corp members want to change the uniform or look different in it. We have seen lots of corp members who changed their mode of dressing and turned their khakis into crazy wears. Some tear the clothes or turn their trousers into three-quarters.

If you were once a corp member, you will understand that as much as pimp your uniform, you dare not make an appearance at community development service because you will be called to order. The local government inspectors are not just there for the fun, it is part of their job to report corp members who do not conform to the rules and regulations of the scheme.

Tearing up uniform or altering the mode of dressing of this scheme is a serious violation of the rules. It is disheartening to know that many of the corp members forget the binding terms and clauses after serving for some months.

A female corp member serving in Ogun state has decided to break the norm and do something different with her uniform; this young lady thinks being normal is boring and has decided to make her own modifications. In a situation like this, it is normal for us to have those who will speak for her and against her.
