Rangers’ Egwim Undergoes Surgery, Out For Four Months; Gets Governor’s N1m




Injured Rangers striker, Ifeanyi Egwim, on Tuesday went through a successful surgery at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, officials have confirmed to Complete Sports.
Egwim broke his tibia fibula in Sunday’s final match day 4-0 win against El-Kanemi Warriors at the Cathedral.
The severity of the fracture ensured he was taken in an ambulance straight to the hospital.
Same Sunday evening, Egwim, a former (defunct) Dolphins of Port Harcourt forward, had the injury scanned where it was confirmed he broke his bones.
Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ordered the injured player be flown to Germany for proper medication.
But according to Charles Ndukwe, Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, doctors at the Nigerian hospital have given firm assurance that the injury is not beyond their capability.
“Egwim went through a successful surgery on Tuesday,” Ndukwe told Complete Sports Wednesday evening.
“He’s responding positively to treatment and that gives us a bit of hope.
“It is not yet late to fly him out if the doctors so suggest. The good thing is that authorities of the hospital are liaising with the hospital in Germany.
“The result of the scan was forwarded to the German hospital immediately and they are studying it.
“No matter what, it will take up to a week for travel documents to be procured before flying him out so we’re still on track.”


Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Tuesday visited injured Egwim at the Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu to wish the player quick recovery.
The governor also made a personal donation of N1m to the one-time Dolphins (now defunct) of Port Harcourt player who on Tuesday went under the surgeon’s knife following an injury during Sunday’s final day NPFL clash against El-Kanemi Warriors at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Rangers won the match 4-0 to lift the NPFL trophy, their first major title win in 32 years.
They will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League for the first time also in 32 years after their last go at the continent’s premier inter-club competition in 1985.
Meanwhile, Rangers team doctor, Dr Emeka Onyia, has revealed that Egwim will back to action after four months.
